
TORONTO - September 19, 2009 - The Toronto International Film Festival announced today the People's Choice Award Winners for its 2009 fest.
The People's Choice Winner for Best Feature went to "Precious," director Lee Daniels' story about a poor, abused and illiterate Harlem teen. The award for documentary went to Leanne Pooley's "The Topp Twins," about a New Zealand lesbian country and western duo, while the heavily promoted "Capitalism: A Love Story" from Michael Moore took the runner-up spot.

Runners up: "Mao's Last Dancer," directed by Bruce Beresford, and "Micmacs à tire-larigot," directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

FIPRESCI Awards
Discovery: "The Man Beyond the Bridge" ("Paltadacho munis"), directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar
Special Presentation: "Hadewijch," Bruno Dumont
