| Reviewed by Elliot V. Kotek (February/March 2007) Director: Craig Brewer Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Justin Timberlake Studio: Paramount Vantage Water Cooler Buzz: Brewer's flick has demanded water-cooler speak for a good year, since his Hustle & Flow success. With box-office king Jackson keeping an indie queen in chains, the film is likely to provoke some heated discussions of race and place. Hopefully, the word "Snake" in the title of this Samuel L. movie may help create awareness, not wariness. Oh, yeah - the presence of R&B crossover Justin Timberlake doesn't hurt the box office, either. Description: Jackson's Bible-belting bluesman forces companionship on an abused white girl known more for her sexual indiscretions than her morality. Hoping to cure her of her "wickedness," the cinematic power struggle 'twixt Jackson's older, stronger, black man and Ricci's sinfully sexual white trash appeal provides uncomfortable laughter along with sermonic chaos, class consideration and healthy doses of revelations.
