We've seen him in the popular press, putting out rumors of a marriage breakdown (all denied, btw), but now we get to see where he's really been - writing, producing and directing his first feature since Head Of State and creating onscreen matrimonial mayhem with femme fatale Kerry Washington (The Last King Of Scotland, Ray). Washington's role in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Rock's recent appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair's "Hollywood Issue" render the duo hotter than global warming. While critics regularly look to carve up Rock's comedy conversions from the stage to the screen where a script can get in the way of timing, there is no doubt that Rock is a provocative protagonist with a popular appeal that should see the box-office align itself as his best buddy. Description: Richard (Rock) is happily married with two children until a jaw-jarringly sensual and sultry Nikki (Washington) shows up. What follows is a series of skits in which Rock's adulterous urges lead him into punishing tragicomic traps - all of which do practically nothing to signal he should stop listening to his crotch. The film's undertones pleasantly place it in the same category as The Break Up - it's ha ha funny at times, but also uncomfortably real; and while Richard eventually reaps payback for his roaming eye and realizes what's best for him, this flick should have more men than women chuckling along to Rock's antics.
