Girls Room

Reviewed by KC Ifeanyi  (Cannes 2007)

Director: Maria Gigante
Starring: Ava Raddatz, Alex Fritsch
Genre: Drama/Comedy

Water Cooler Buzz: Fans of the popular '90s TV show "Are You Afraid of the Dark" will experience an instant wave of nostalgia with Girls Room's chilling, childhood-urban-legend feel. With not a word of dialogue in the entire short, composer Jeffrey Thomas's haunting - and sometimes playful - melodies say it all.

Synopsis: Girls Room opens the door and gives the audience a realistic view of the seedy, and downright disgusting, world of public restrooms. Set in what seems like an average junior high school, Girls Room follows one particular girl's journey through the dark and desolate hallway and past the towering wooden door branded simply "GIRLS." Once inside, the heroine in plaid must battle her reservations and summon her nerves in order to complete her quest: going No. 1. While on the toilet, an unexpected guest becomes her neighbor in the next stall... but is she friend or foe?
