With the world of filmmaking becoming more and more accessible, with time becoming more and more valuable, with festivals and the Internet providing more and more avenues of expression - the short film is taking its place in our cinematic psyche.
In each issue, Moving Pictures identifies five of the best. They've left us supremely entertained or profoundly informed, and we honor them with their place on MPM's The Short List:

Title: Wednesday
Director: Joel Nassan

Synopsis: Wednesday is the story of a man who goes about the simplicity of his life amongst the complexity of Los Angeles. He photographs his every move, and the mystery behind the photos becomes clear at the end of his day.

Synopsis: Jane is unhappy with her dull husband and monotonous marriage. Thankfully, in the near future, unhappiness can be made a thing of the past and upgrades are always available. The film aims to spin both the romantic drama and sci-fi genres on their heads by plotting them strategically against each other.

Title: One Rat Short

Synopsis: Inhabited with the feel of the film The Red Balloon, a subway rat blindly follows an enchanted Cheetos bag into an underground laboratory where his interaction with a pristine lab rat changes his destiny. A love story without words. Or people.

Synopsis: We've all experienced those awkward moments in life...you meet an old acquaintance on the street, you don't quite know what to say and you don't know how to get out of the situation. Luckily, Bob has come up with a quick and easy solution to break the silence.
